PRIMARY HEART

The hand, heart, and head approach in education is a framework that emphasizes the development of skills, values, and knowledge in an integrated and holistic way. It suggests that learning should involve not only cognitive development (head), but also emotional (heart) and physical (hand) development.

The heart component of the Hand Heart Head approach is focused on developing students’ emotional intelligence, empathy, and social skills in early Primary Years [ I to V]. Through a range of activities and strategies, we aim to help our primary students develop a strong sense of self-awareness and emotional regulation, as well as an understanding of their own and others’s emotions.

Some of the ways we promote the heart component of the Hand Heart Head approach in the primary years include:

Mindfulness exercises: We incorporate regular mindfulness exercises into our daily routines, helping students become more aware of their thoughts, emotions, and physical sensations.

Emotional check-ins: At the beginning of each class or group session, we ask students how they are feeling and encourage them to share any emotions they are experiencing.

Cooperative games and activities: We use games and activities that require students to work together and communicate effectively, promoting empathy and social skills.

Storytelling and role-playing: We use stories and role-playing activities to help students understand and express different emotions, as well as develop empathy for others.

We believe that by promoting the heart component of the Hand Heart Head approach, we can help our primary students develop the emotional intelligence and social skills they need to succeed academically and socially. We are committed to creating a supportive and nurturing learning environment that fosters the growth and development of the whole child.
